LOCAL DINING

Seven Neighborhood Spots Where You Can Grab a Tasty Bite Nearby

by Marcia Gagliardi

San Francisco is famous for its international dining scene, and we want you to enjoy a taste of it before or after your visit to the SkyStar (or ideally, both)! Golden Gate Park is surrounded with all kinds of dining options in interesting neighborhoods: the Inner Richmond to the North, the Haight and Cole Valley along its western edge, and the Inner Sunset to the South, which is packed with restaurants. From acclaimed croissants to local favorite sandwiches, longtime restaurant columnist Marcia Gagliardi of tablehopper.com has picked out some tasty bites for you, and most are a 15-minute walk away from the SkyStar.

Since we’re still dealing with the pandemic, you may have to get creative with where to eat your takeout, from a picnic to a park bench (pssst, there’s a bench with room for two at 1327 10th Avenue) to some steps—don’t forget to ask for napkins and silverware if you need them! Please note that hours and outdoor seating options are subject to change, while indoor seating is slowly returning to San Francisco, so double check any details before you walk over. Thank you for wearing your mask and respecting social distancing wherever you go.

INNER SUNSET

Arizmendi Bakery
1331 9th Ave. at Irving St. (14 min. walk)
415-566-3117
Tue–Sun 7:30am–6pm
Takeout only; benches out front

A much-adored bakery cooperative, Arizmendi has carby goodies for all palates (and ages), from their pecan rolls to tasty muffins and scones to tangy almond-sourdough croissants to their famed slices of focaccia loaded with toppings (always vegetarian, always delicious, and changing every day—like their daily pizza, available by the half or whole pie; check their website for that day’s toppings, or call the number above and press 2). Get some cookies to snack on later, like double chocolate mint or shortbread. You’ll find some gluten-free options too! Order online and you can skip the line and go straight to the pickup window.
